Africa’s water future: technical expertise required to bridge global innovation and local needs

While cutting-edge technologies from the developed world present promising avenues for advancing Africa’s water infrastructure, success depends not on replication, but on adaptation. Region-specific application, rooted in deep contextual understanding and guided by experienced technical teams, is essential to long-term sustainability. Without this insight, the risk of failed infrastructure, tragic health incidents and wasted investment rises sharply. True progress occurs when innovation meets local realities through thoughtful partnerships that align technical ambition with regional experience. This philosophy is at the heart of GIBB Engineering & Architecture’s work across the continent.GIBB Technical Executive, Wiero Vogelzang, says common pitfalls in implementing advanced technologies on the continent include a poor understanding of the local

R100-million boost for electric car charging stations in South Africa

Zero Carbon Charge (Charge) has received a R100 million injection from the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA). The company builds “climate resilient” electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that will assist South Africa in transitioning to a net-zero transport economy. “This show of faith by the DBSA is not just financial — it is symbolic. We are truly grateful,” said Charge director and co-founder Andries Malherbe. Charge said in a statement that the funding will allow it to set up a charging station every 150 kilometres along the country’s national roads to reduce range anxiety for EV drivers. Each site

Understanding Concrete Curing – How SCC’s GripCure Acrylic Ensures Strength and Durability

When it comes to construction or DIY projects involving concrete, proper curing is often overlooked but is one of the most critical steps in achieving strong and durable results. SCC’s GripCure Acrylic is a game-changer in curing technology, making it easier to lock in moisture, prevent cracks, and maximise the strength of your concrete. In this blog, we’ll explore why curing is essential and how GripCure Acrylic can make all the difference. Why Is Concrete Curing So Important? Concrete gains strength through a process called hydration, where water reacts with cement to form strong chemical bonds. Without proper curing, moisture can escape too quickly,

Frigair 2025: Hervac systems crucial component of successful construction and infrastructure projects

While construction usually deals with bricks and mortar, the health and comfort of the humans that will live and work in the constructed spaces, as well as the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings is directly related to heating, energy, refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning (Hervac) systems. This makes Hervac systems a crucial component of any successful construction and infrastructure project. Using a combination of new technologies and innovations, mindful infrastructure design, and renewable energy options, the Hervac industry is fast becoming an enabler in local sustainable infrastructure and property development. The South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Sairac)

How GFRP is outperforming steel in construction by GFRP Tech

For nearly two centuries, steel rebar has been a fundamental component in reinforced concrete construction, providing strength and durability to buildings and infrastructure. However, a new contender is rapidly emerging: Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). With its superior technical performance and numerous advantages over traditional steel, GFRP is redefining the standards for modern construction and gaining widespread popularity as a durable and innovative alternative. Looking at the key differences between GFRP and steel, by focusing on strength, durability, lifecycle, maintenance, weight, conductivity and sustainability, it is easy to see why GFRP will continue to gain traction in the South African
